importance of using animal blood bank

The importance of using a livestock blood bank to treat dairy cows and the comprehensive use of blood as medicine

Earlier, in an article, we mentioned how to treat cows with hemoglobinuria and noted that in the first 2 days of the disease, about 50 liters of healthy blood should be injected into the cow, and this amount of blood is enough for a 400 kg cow.

Studies and researches on the feasibility of using cow blood in the slaughterhouse show that it can be used as a storage of animal blood.

In a recent study, the Tehran School of Veterinary Medicine prepared cow blood from slaughterhouses and kept it at 4 ° C for exactly 46 days.

blood bank

important Experiments performed

During this period, 3 experiments were performed on the samples at intervals of 7 days up to 46 days

Hematological tests (hematocrit, normal hemoglobin, free hemoglobin of red and white blood cells),
Biochemical tests (sodium, potassium, calcium, urea, blood pH, total protein and glucose)
AST and LDH enzyme tests.

Also, all samples were cultured on the first and tenth days and were examined for serological tests (test card).

Culture samples (except for 4 positive cases) as well as serological tests (brucellosis) were all negative.

Comparison of mean blood findings with day 0 shows that changes in hematocrit, red and white blood cells were not significant until day 40, while normal hemoglobin, free hemoglobin, blood pH, sodium, potassium, calcium, urea, AST, LDH, Total protein and glucose showed a significant difference (P \u003c0.05) in blood storage

Conclusion: No change in hematocrit, red and white blood cells up to day 40 and normal hemoglobin up to day 28, as the main components of blood transfusion, from the positive points of this study and changes in sodium, potassium and pH from possible complications of transfusion stored by this method. Such blood should be transferred to anemic cows and the side effects of all the above factors should be investigated.

Blood transfusion is one of the well-known treatment methods in anemic animals, which has been less inclined due to lack of sufficient information.

As a result, red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit, which are the main elements of blood transfusion, will improve the animal by affecting vital and physiological activities.
Biochemical elements and enzymes did not play a significant role in blood transfusion and had no side effects in accepting cows.

Types of blood

Types of blood groups in cattle

In cows, 10 blood group systems have been identified, and in only 2 of these systems is a separate factor determining blood type. In other systems, a variety of factors play a role in determining blood type. This group of factors are actually specific proteins found in the blood serum. The presence of any of these proteins in the blood serum of animals is an inherited trait

Eleven types of blood groups have been identified in cows, denoted by the letters A, B, C, F, J, L, M, S, T, Z, and R.

Blood groups B and J are more important. There is a lot of complexity in these two groups.

For example, in blood group B, there are about 60 types of antigens.

Antigen J is a type of lipid that is present in body fluids and is absorbed by red blood cells.

Some cows have very little J antigen, so they are J negative.
